چکیده

One problem with a RED router with fixed parameter settings is that the buffer queue length varies markedly with the traffic level. In this paper, an algorithm is derived analytically for automatically tuning the key RED parameter maxp to keep the average queue length at the target value despite a varying traffic load. A control-theoretic stability analysis is performed to obtain guidelines for setting the remaining RED parameters and the adaptation frequency. Simulation results show that the new adaptive algorithm is faster acting and more accurate than previously proposed heuristic methods.

An Improvement over Random Early Detection Algorithm: A Self-Tuning Approach

Random Early Detection (RED) is one of the most commonly used Active Queue Management (AQM) algorithms that is recommended by IETF for deployment in the network. Although RED provides low average queuing delay and high throughput at the same time, but effectiveness of RED is highly sensitive to the RED parameters setting. As network condition varies largely, setting RED's parameters with fixed ...

Performance Improvement by Dynamic Queue Management in Mobile Ad hoc Network

Mobile Ad hoc network [MANET] consists of mobile nodes without any fixed infrastructure, communicating through wireless medium. In MANET, Congestion occurs in any intermediate nodes when data packets travel from source to destination and they incur higher packet loss rate and long delay, which cause the degradations in performance of a network. Congestion can be controlled by Active Queue Manag...

A novel self-tuning feedback controller for active queue management supporting TCP flows

Wireless access points act as bridges between wireless and wired networks. Since the actually available bandwidth in wireless networks is much smaller than that in wired networks, there is a bandwidth disparity in channel capacity which makes the access point a significant network congestion point. The recently proposed active queue management (AQM) is an effective method used in wired network ...

On Control Parameters Tuning for Active Queue Management Mechanisms using Multivariate Analysis

In recent years, AQM (Active Queue Management) mechanisms, which support the end-to-end congestion control mechanism of TCP by performing congestion control at a router, have been actively studied by many researchers. AQM mechanisms usually have several control parameters, and their effectiveness depends on a setting of those control parameters. Therefore, issues on parameter tuning of several ...

Multivariate Analysis for Performance Evaluation of Active Queue Management Mechanisms in the Internet

AQM (Active Queue Management) mechanism, which performs congestion control at a router for assisting the end-to-end congestion control mechanism of TCP, has been actively studied by many researchers. For instance, RED (Random Early Detection) is a representative AQM mechanism, which drops arriving packets with a probability being proportional to its average queue length. The RED router has four...
